The bone Oscar 2023 are more open than ever, especially in their most important categories, after announcing a list of films, actors, actresses and directors nominated for the most varied. Either the classic and academic victories (Banshees by Inisherin oh The Fabelmans), or the alternative and different triumphs (I salute you, all at once everywhere). Left as a big favourite, but I don’t know if the academicians are prepared for Everything at the same time everywhere to sweep the Oscars 2023. The most alternative film on the list, a sci-fi comedy masterfully performed by michelle yeo and with a screenplay by its directors (Dan Kwan Daniel Scheinert) that defies all convention. Probably out of her 11 nominations, she only manages to cross off Best Original Screenplay and Best Leading Actress, but just by being on the list, she’s already triumphed..
All Quiet Front (9 nominations)
During its premiere in netflix, has already established itself as one of the most impressive films on the streaming platform. However, this is only Golden Balls (nominated for Best Foreign Language Film) and even the BAFTA (7 awards, including Best Film and Best Direction) which got the recognition it deserved. A war movie that can sweep the 2023 Oscars and has been nominated 9 times (including Best Picture and Directing).
Banshees of Inisherin (9 nominations)
Perhaps the biggest surprise on the list is Banshees by Inisherina black comedy starring Colin Farrel there Brendan Gleeson which went fairly unnoticed ahead of awards season (although it did arrive in Spain on February 3, 2023). He is nominated in 9 categories, including Best Film, Best Director y Best Original Screenplay. A masterpiece that must be recognized to regain its prominence in the film industry.
Elvis (8 nominations)
Elvis He deserves everything and more. Baz Luhrmann is back in style with this Elvis Presley biography with an important novelty: the focus is not on the life of the artist. Instead of this simplistic narrative, Jeremy Doner, Sam Bromell, Baz Luhrmann y Craig Pearce (the writers) They take advantage of the figure of their representative (Colonel Tom Parker) shaping a story about the rise and fall of the famous king of rock. Technically exceptional, with the Australian’s own stamp.
The Fabelmans (7 nominations)
you have to trust more Steven Spielberg because he gave us one of the most moving films of the year. The Fabelmans go beyond an autobiography and use the story to explore universal themes such as childhood, success and dreams.. Probably as a surprise, partly because it’s the most academic movie on the list with Banshees by Inisherin. And I have a feeling that maybe Spielberg will win the prize for better orientation.
