The first Eco Talk of 2023 organized by El Eco of LOS40 revolved around an issue that concerns us all: pollution. A challenge to which the guests proposed all kinds of solutions with a clear objective: to achieve more breathable air and a more sustainable planet. In addition to some of the best experts in the field, the event was attended by singer Vicco, who gave her first performance after her successful stay at Benidorm Fest.

The conference took place in a unique location: a beautiful nursery in Madrid. But not just any, but Begonia Garden, which is part of the facilities of the Aprocor Foundation, an organization that focuses its efforts on supporting people with intellectual disabilities for their integration into society.

“People with disabilities want to be in the world and participate,” explained Leticia Avendaño, director of Aprocor, during the conference. “Our commitment is to support them in their life project: they also want to contribute to create a better world to make communities more livable for all.

In this sense, Leticia recalled that the work of Aprocor is closely in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, with goals such as number 11, which works to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.

A better world for all

The daily life of Aprocor is reflected in projects such as the District Collaboration Units (UDC), a Madrid City Council project that aims to improve the employability of people at risk of exclusion. In the CDUs, these people receive training in specific professional skills and socio-professional skills.

Eduardo Sánchez and Tatiana Alarcón, members of the UDC, explained what their work entails. “We carried out various actions, such as cleaning, gardening or other activities aimed at improving neighborhoods,” Eduardo explained. “We are dedicated to collecting pallets, to which we give a second life. We make houses for bats and take them to Monte del Pardo,” Tatiana said.

These are just two examples of the many projects that Aprocor has in hand. A foundation which since 1989 has been working to enable people with intellectual disabilities to exercise their right to full citizenship. From El Eco de LOS40 we are also clear: taking care of the planet is everyone’s job. Do you add?
