NEW YORK — The New York City Department of Transportation circled and missed a road sign for Jackie Robinson Parkway that spelled the Baseball Hall of Famer’s first name as “Jakie.”

The sign seen in Queens on Sunday featured an image of Robinson, the first African-American major league player of the modern era, above the words “Jakie Robinson Parkway.”

Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Gastel said the faulty sign was replaced on Monday.

Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. He is recognized as a civil rights pioneer and superstar athlete who made the All-Star Game six times and hit .313 in his 10 years career in MLB.

The road formerly known as Interboro Parkway was renamed Jackie Robinson Parkway in 1997, the 50th anniversary of his breakthrough rookie season.
