A gunfight prompted evictions Monday morning in a Canyon Country neighborhood.
The standoff began after a manhunt began following a report of theft at a gas station in Saugus. This chase ended in the neighborhood, but the driver refused to get out of the van.
Officers responded to the 19300 block of Newhouse Street in the east Santa Clarita community at around 6:30 a.m. Nearby streets were closed due to a SWAT operation involving three armored vehicles blocking the SUV in a dead end.
The man is the only person in the vehicle, authorities said.
Crisis negotiators also responded to the scene by attempting to contact the man.
It is not immediately known how many homes have been evacuated.
