Activist groups gathered this Wednesday morning in Little Havana to speak out against what they see as an unfair and unconstitutional bill, which they say attacks Florida’s immigrant communities.
Members of the We Are Florida Coalition held a press conference and solidarity rally with immigrant neighbors in Miami’s iconic Domino Park to condemn the unconstitutional and unjust legislation (HB 1617/SB 1718) targeting communities of immigrants to the state.
The event is part of an organized Florida statewide effort to fight on behalf of communities attacked by Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida legislative leaders.
Speakers highlighted how the bills fail to keep many migrants safe as they run counter to the history of a welcoming home for children and families fleeing violence in their home countries. .
Some migrants have pointed out that this legislation undermines our ability to build a healthy and prosperous future for Floridians.
