Prince harry, the grandson of the Queen isabel II, and his wife Meghan Markle, they lost their last official titles after confirming to the sovereign their definitive withdrawal from the British royal family, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on Friday.
By confirming that they did not wish to reverse their decision at the end of the one-year transition period, “the military titles and royal patronages of the Duke and Duchess (of Sussex) will be returned to her Majesty the Queen”, the palace specified in a statement. “Everyone is sad about this decision”added the text.
As it is remembered, a year ago the couple decided to leave the monarchy, start a new life outside the UK and be financially independent, in what was then known as the “Megxit”, but this situation was pending review in early 2021.
With this confirmation, the head of state has decided to withdraw from her grandson, sixth in the line of succession to the British throne, the honorary sponsorships that he held and that will return to the sovereign, who will distribute them to other members of the royal family.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed to his Majesty that they will no longer be active members of the royal family” the palace said in a statement.
“After speaking with the duke, the queen wrote to confirm that, by renouncing her obligations related to her membership in the royal house, it is not possible to continue exercising responsibilities and duties related to a life of public service,”adds the text.
