This Sunday, March 12th, marks the 95th edition of the Oscars, the most important film awards presented each year by the Hollywood Academy to outstanding films. Over these nine decades, there have been many memorable films, but also amazing soundtracks that have taken these movies to the next level.

In cinema, as in life, music is not an easy task. It is decisive in any film, essential to connect with the story, and feel emotion. Chords, rhythm, and melodies inspire and accompany the protagonists of any film in their avatars. This is why we must give our full attention to the category of Best Original Song.

At LOS40, we have created this Definitive playlist with some of the best Oscar-winning songs over almost a hundred years, resulting in a list of over 42 songs and almost 3 hours of music.

It’s worth noting the rivalry between Disney and the 007 franchise, as both have won a good number of awards over the past decades. The Adventures of James Bond, with Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, and Adele, have been overtaken by the songs of the factory founded by Walt Disney. By adding his films under the Pixar brand, a total of ten of his films have collected a statuette: Coco, Frozen, Toy Story 3, Monsters Inc., Tarzan, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid.

As for the artists who have accumulated several golden statuettes on their shelf, we have Elton John with his biopic and The Lion King, Madonna with the story of Evita Perón and with Dick Tracy, and of course, Celine Dion who, in addition to her well-known ballad in Titanic, is also one of the interpreters of the central theme of Beauty and the Beast, alongside another dubbed voice, that of the R&B ballad Peabo Bryson. Another voice that received this honor twice in the 80s was the recently departed Irene Cara, who made us dance with “Flashdance” and with “Fame” a few years earlier.

Nor can we forget the iconic “Lose Yourself” by Eminem from the soundtrack of 8 Mile, “Streets of Philadelphia” by Bruce Springsteen, and more recently, the successes of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and “City of Stars” interpreted by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
