One person was killed during a shooting in Miami Beach on the night of March 15.

According to the local media 7 News Miami, the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m., in the 2300 block of Pine Tree Drive.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call from neighbors who heard the shots. At the scene they found a man who was injured on the ground, but who died after a few minutes.

Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodríguez indicated that it is not yet clear who was responsible for the shooting, but assured that detectives are already collecting information to find the person or persons who may be involved in the incident.

Similarly, he indicated that a second shooting occurred near the place, so the investigation will focus on finding out if the two incidents are related.

“Detectives are treating these two shootings as if they were separate incidents. We will work all night to verify if there is a relationship between the two to see if they will continue to be investigated independently ”.

The shooting occurred hours after Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber expressed concern at the increasing rate of violence in the city and called for changes to address the danger this represents.

“I urge my colleagues to be courageous and resist the urge to make only gradual changes. The time for small steps is over ”.

Gelber made this call regarding spring break, known as “Spring Break,” which is a great source of tourist income but also brings with it an increase in violence, as was recorded over the weekend in Miami-Dade, where more than 100 people were arrested for causing trouble on the street.

Similarly, the authorities have reported that during this Spring Break some 13 firearms have been seized, which reflects the risk that this conduct brings, especially in times of pandemic.

So far the victim of the fatal shooting, around 30 years old, has not been identified by authorities.
