NEW YORK — The New York City Carpenters Union is hiring 100 apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced Monday.
The New York City Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for High Rise Concrete Carpenters will hold a recruiting April 12-November 8 for 100 apprentice carpenters.
Applicants must attend an in-person briefing at the New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center (NYCDCC Training Center), 395 Hudson Street (Clarkson Street entrance) in Manhattan. Information sessions will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9:00 to 10:00 for all trades during the hiring period. No entry after 9am
Please note that places are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. At the end of the information session, you will receive an access code necessary to complete an online application.
Candidates must register during the in-person information session. Failure to register will disqualify the individual from further consideration. Applications will be available online during the recruitment period at www.nyccarpenterstrainingcenter.org.
Completed applications should be emailed to application@nycdcctc.org or mailed to NYCDCC Training Center, 395 Hudson Street, 2nd Floor, New York, New York 10014. If submitting an application by mail, it should be postmarked no later than five (5) days after the date of the information session. If you have it, you will be disqualified.
Applicants who meet the above application steps will receive a confirmation letter and an interview will be scheduled and provided with an instruction sheet and a list of original documents that will be required. Candidates who do not arrive on time for their scheduled interview will be disqualified.
The Committee requires applicants:
- You must be at least 17 years old at the time of application.
- You must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Testing will be required after selection and prior to apprenticeship registration.
- They must be physically capable of performing the work of the trade without posing a direct threat to their own safety or that of others.
- You must certify in writing that you are physically capable of performing carpentry work, which may include:
- Work on scaffolding and in confined spaces.
- Work in adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snow, cold, heat and direct sunlight.
- Perform constant repetitive movements.
- Climbing and working at height.
- Lift objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
- Standing and stooping for long periods.
- Must successfully complete a substance abuse assessment, at Sponsor’s expense, within 48 hours of screening and prior to apprenticeship registration. Applicants who do not pass the substance abuse assessment will be notified and disqualified.
- You must provide proof of any trade-related experience, certification or training, after selection and prior to apprenticeship registration.
- Must be able to read, hear and understand written and verbal instructions and warnings in English.
- You must be a US citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States. Tests will be required after selection and before apprenticeship registration.
- You must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to apprenticeship registration.
