ORLANDO, Florida – The Nasa revealed on Tuesday the discovery of a huge asteroid that will pass between the Moon and the Earth this Saturday afternoon.

The asteroid, named 2023 DZ2, was first sighted in February by astronomers at an observatory in La Palma, in the Canary Islands.

The rock is between 140 and 310 feet in diameter; an Olympic-size pool, for example, is about 164 feet.

The asteroid will pass at a distance of 108,000 miles from Earth, halfway between the planet and the Moon.

According to experts, an asteroid of this size and passing relatively close to our planet is a rare space event that occurs once every 10 years.

NASA said there is nothing to worry about as the object will pass “safely” between the two celestial bodies.

The asteroid’s closest approach to Earth will be Saturday, March 25 at around 3:50 p.m. ET.
