Man steals car in Broward, launches manhunt and surrenders to authorities

A man who stole a vehicle in Fort Lauderdale turned himself in to authorities after leading a chase and barricading himself in the victim’s car, police confirmed.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Fort Lauderdale police responded to an emergency call for a stolen car. A few minutes later, the car was located near 13th Street and Powerline Road, northwest of the city.

A chase ensued and the suspect eventually barricaded himself in the car, prompting heavy police mobilization with a SWAT team present between 13th Street and 4th Avenue, police said.

Finally, the man, an adult, decided to surrender and surrendered to the authorities without incident.

The robbery victim sustained injuries and was transported to Broward Health Medical Center; at first his condition was not reported.
