Kimetsu no Yaibahas many characters beyond Tanjiro and Nezuko, and most of them have certain story moments that allow them to shine independently. One such character is Genya Shinazugawa, who despite not being one of the Pillars has a combat performance that gives him as much or nearly the same relevance as what Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke achieve for their part. Having said that, who is Genya Shinazugawa really in “Kimetsu no Yaiba”?

Here’s everything you need to know about Genya Shinazugawa in Kimetsu no Yaiba (SPOILERS)

  • Genya’s cover letter is very simple: He is a member of the Demon Exterminating Corps and is the younger brother of the Pillar of Wind, Sanemi Shinazugawa..
  • Genya is a character who has the same capricious character as her older brother, although what she really seeks is his approval. For that goes to extremes in battle, even though he suffers serious injuries in the process.
Genya appears at several points, but it’s only in the Blacksmiths’ Village that she gains relevance.
  • Although Genya stands out in battle for showing herself a shotgun and a short swordwhat of course makes him different is his ability to get demonic abilities:
    • By consuming parts of a demon, Genya can acquire attributes of the sameand how much he gets depends on the power of the demon in question.
    • Consuming parts of Upper Moon 4, Genya’s physical strength allowed him to throw several trees consecutively. When he did the same with the Upper Moon 1, he even reached intercept telepathic conversations with Muzan. Obviously, Genya also gets the typical regenerative abilities of the most advanced demons.
    • Eventually, after consuming parts of Upper Moon 1 and 4, Genya develops his own demonic art which allows him to strengthen his balls so that they acquire special attributes.
  • Although he is a powerful demon exterminator thanks to his unique qualities, the truth is that Genya’s swordsmanship is practically nil. In fact, he can’t develop a single style of breathing, and that’s why he relies more on his bullets than his katana when attacking his enemies.. This is precisely why Sanemi seems to hate Genya. Aware of the limits of his brother, who despite this gives his all in combat, he tries to be cruel to him to prevent him from undertaking dangerous missions which could cost him his life.
  • A special technique that Genya learns after being trained by Himejima is “repetitive motion”.. Since Genya cannot use any breathing technique, she uses said technique, which consists of repeating a series of words and/or phrases that aid concentration and physical enhancements similar to a breathing technique.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know about Genya in “Kimetsu no Yaiba.” Personally, this is one of my favorite characters, and although I’ve often had Uzui and Himejima in front of me, I think the anime will eventually make me opt for this one more. in the end it is the only one of the demon slayers we know of who can “transform” into a demon, and that’s a quality that, to me, is absolutely amazing.
