This evening, in Miami, it is the parishioners who are praying for the pope.

José Joaquín Espino, rector of the National Shrine of the Virgin of Charity, SAYS:

“The Mass we just celebrated, one of the requests in particular was for the Pope’s health.”

Even the heavy rain this evening in Miami did not prevent many from arriving here. They ask for the speedy recovery of the Sovereign Pontiff.

Buck, a Filipino believer. He arrived walking in the middle of the inclement rain. He has been visiting the Hermitage of Charity since 2008. He does not speak Spanish and told us that, although he does not understand anything about the Eucharist, he remains bound by faith. Today he held the appointment and his request was the same as many.

“All we can do is ask our lord to give him many blessings to make him healthier, because I’m not sure he can attend all Vatican activities, but hopefully .”

Earlier this Wednesday, the Holy See’s press office reported that “Pope Francis” was hospitalized in Rome with a respiratory infection that requires a few days of treatment.

“The Archbishop has asked us to pray intensely for him and we pray for him especially knowing the fragility of his health, not just now,” Espino said.

In his youth, Jorge Mario Bergoglio lost part of a lung due to a respiratory infection.

After becoming the Holy Father, his health deteriorated. In July 2021, he was hospitalized for 10 days for bowel surgery.

Now he has sciatica, hip and leg issues. He uses a cane and sometimes a wheelchair.

This isn’t the first time Francisco has had to cancel or postpone public appearances.

“We prayed for him, asking that he may continue to lead the church. We pray for his intention today,” Espino said.

In Miami, believers ask that their prayers be heard, not only for the Pope’s health but for the recovery of all the sick.
