Human traffickers on the border between Mexico and the United States endangered the lives of two migrant girls, ages 3 and 5, by throwing them from the wall that divides these nations.

In a video shared through social networks by Gloria Chávez, head of the Border Patrol of the El Paso sector, the “coyotes” are seen climbing the barrier and then climbing the two minors and throwing them towards the US side.

After the fall, the traffickers move away as quickly as possible while the girls are left alone in the face of the dangers that exist in that desert area of the border, located at the height of New Mexico.

“I am appalled at the way these smugglers threw two innocent girls from a 14-foot-high barrier,” said the official.

The girls were rescued by elements of the Border Patrol and are currently in a detention center for migrant minors.

The aforementioned case shows that the presence of unaccompanied minors at the border is increasing and could turn into a severe crisis such as the separation of migrant children and parents in previous years.

The US authorities have enabled or reopened spaces to protect children who are found alone or in large groups of undocumented immigrants who enter US territory.

Reports from the last week of March indicated that some 5,000 unaccompanied minors were in detention centers guarded by the Border Patrol and some 15,000 were in the care of the Health Department.

By provisions of the law, minors can not be more than 48 hours confined in detention centers for migrants, upon completion of this period they must be transferred to a shelter administered by federal authorities.

An agency report of Reuters revealed that human smugglers are convincing migrant parents so that they allow the trafficking of their children taking advantage of the fact that the Joe Biden government is not immediately expelling them.

The Democratic administration maintains the measure of not returning minors to Mexico to prevent them from being victims of the dangers in this place and for this reason they assure parents that there will be no immigration consequences if they approach to request the return of their children.

Unaccompanied minors found in Mexican territory are sent to the facilities of the National System for the Integral Development of Families, which is responsible for caring for orphaned children or children separated from their parents by cases of violence.
