I could end this analysis by saying that Horizon Call of the Mountain is possibly the best VR game you can play and the best title to release on PS VR2. But you might want to know more. I have already mentioned it in PS VR2 reviewthe feeling when you enter the game, you see yourself in a boat crossing a river, everything with so many details, so many colors, everything so real… It’s very difficult to explain, but it’s incredible.

The game looks so good that the feeling of immersion is incredibly great., I personally have never felt so immersed in the world of a virtual reality game than with this Horizon Call of the Mountain. In addition, being able to see Aloy, the protagonist of the main saga games, talking to you half a meter away from you, is something brutal. But let’s go in parts.

The first sensation in Horizon Call of the Mountain overwhelms

I will not repeat myself, I have already indicated this above. Horizon VR, as I’ll call it, your head will explode when you first see it. But once the initial feeling has passed, the game has a first half hour or so where they teach you the main dynamics of the game, the most used being climbing and archery.

The climbing implementation is excellent, as is the bow implementation.. You really believe that you are doing these actions. Shooting with a bow is terribly pleasant, because by pulling the left hand behind the back and holding the trigger, the bow is taken out or put away, with the bow taken out, with the same process but with the right hand, as if we had a quiver of arrows, We go out and shoot all the arrows we want. The feeling is spectacular.

The game serves well as a technical demo of everything the PS VR2 can do and the sensations it can give us at the controls. Besides this game goes much further than others in the virtual reality catalogWell, we can interact with almost any environment, such that I can pick up an apple, throw it as far as I can, start putting things in a box and then throw it… Everything has its physics and I assure you that if you play it, you will waste a lot of time with this kind of thing.

Shooting Arrows in Horizon VR

Horizon Call of the Mountain as a video game

It’s clear, and if I don’t, I’ll tell you as many times as it takes, that Horizon VR is technically amazing, graphically overwhelming, and a uniquely immersive experience. But how is it as a game? Well, I must say that although at first I was afraid that it would only remain in some kind of technical demo, the game, saving distances with a conventional title, is an important bet in the genre, demonstrate that interesting stories and games can be created that bring something even if they were born in virtual reality.

Obviously, the game sometimes sins of abusing its dynamics, but this dynamic is the game itself and the very concept of virtual reality glasses. The game at the end lasts about 6 hours and on some occasions you may get tired of climbing or repeating something, but believe me, it’s very enjoyable.

Obviously the game is not an open world work like the PS4 and PS5 games, but rather chooses to be moved on a linear map in which we must achieve various objectives, the variety is constantly provided by the heights and an area more open, but be clear that this is not an open game.

Moving around the world, as I said above, is completely free, that is, we control where the character and the camera move, all with the joysticks on each hand. This in some games can cause dizziness, is this the case? Well I’m a dizzy person and while it’s true that at some point something happened with the camera that I said “oops, oops” the truth is that I was able to play long sessions with no problem.

Horizon: Forbidden West (PS5) (PS5)

Horizon: Forbidden West (PS5) (PS5)

  • Take on a vast open world – discover distant lands, new enemies, rich cultures and striking characters.
  • A majestic frontier – explore the lush forests, sunken cities and towering mountains of a distant future America.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is a game that needs to be measured through the prism of virtual reality. It has flaws that would obviously be judgeable in a classic game, but as a title for PS VR2 I have to say that it is not only one of the best games on this platform, but also one of the games that I think I enjoyed the most in my life with any virtual reality headset. An essential and necessary game for anyone who is going to buy a PlayStation VR2 and a game that practically justifies the purchase of the device. Feeling inside the video game is something unique and this Horizon realizes it, it makes you part of its environment and makes you enjoy it.
