February is one of the most special dates for the people of Cadiz since the celebration of COAC 2023, a traditional festival that brings together enthusiasts and curious people who want to enjoy a unique contest in which many groups from the Andalusian capital and its surroundings take part. After seeing the quarter-finals and the long-awaited final, we finally got to find out who was the COAC 202 winners3.

On the morning of Friday February 17 to Saturday February 18, the long-awaited final was held, during which the jury announced the names of the 13 award-winning groups in the morning. After an intense day of judging, here’s how the rankings turned out:

Even though the COAC is over, the party in Cadiz continues. All of you who thought about coming to the city these days will be able to enjoy a lot of activities, and maybe also the groups who weren’t lucky enough to sneak into the winners’ rankings, because more one will walk the streets of the city encouraging children and adults.

What prizes do groups win at the Carnival of Cadiz?

Everything counts. For the duration of the competition, all groups have a high chance of obtaining an economic prize which varies according to the result obtained in the final of the COAC and all the previous phases that they have overcome.

Let’s start at the beginning. The comparsas, chirigotas, choirs and quartets that manage to qualify in the preliminary stages receive up to 432.10 euros, a figure that increases when these groups go to the quarter-finals receiving 3,086.42 euros and semi-final by receiving up to 5,735.80 euro.

Although the interesting always happens in the final of the COAC. In this decisive phase, the formations that manage to overcome the third and last night of long knives manage to enter more than 4,000 euros, in addition to a first dolphin which translates into 3,250 euros for the choirs and a little less for the rest of the groups, 2,000 euros for the jokers and comparsas and 1,000 euros for the quartets.

According to the Municipal Delegation of Culture and Festivals of the Town Hall of Cadiz, these are the amounts of prizes for the winners of the COAC 2023:

  • First prize: 7,800 euros for the choirs, 4,800 euros for the comparsas and chirigotas and 2,500 for the quartets.
  • Second prize: 5,500 euros for the choirs, 3,500 for the comparsas and chirigotas and 1,750 for the quartets.
  • Third prize: 5,000 euros for choirs, 3,000 for comparsas and chirigotas and 1,600 for quartets.
  • Fourth prize: 3,850 euros for choirs, 2,500 for comparsas and chirigotas and 1,300 for quartets.

The COAC 2023 contest is over, but in the Andalusian capital you will continue to party, lots of jokes and lots of commotion, because according to the Cadiz Carnival program there are more parades, shows and concerts with which to continue enjoying a few very special days.
