Two people were seriously injured in a fire at a one-story house in South Los Angeles on Monday, while a firefighter was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

Five other people at 963 W. 43rd Place were tested but refused to be taken to hospital, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Firefighters dispatched to the scene at 8:55 a.m. gave the major alarm at 9:16 a.m.

“Firefighters found a large single-family home with visible fire and dense, pressurized smoke from the vents,” said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews climbed ladders to ventilate the roof, while contractors came in with hoses to fight the fire from inside.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
