It’s been 20 years since many of us met David Bisbal at the academy of Operation Triumph. It was the start of one of the most international races in our country. This boy who surprised us with his curls, twists with a kick and his Andalusian touch had a lot to offer.

Because getting to now hasn’t been easy. “A difficult, very difficult 20th anniversary. I must have started my musical career, if you think about it, in the physical piracy boom, which it was very difficult to survive at that time“, confessed the singer about this anniversary.

But he survived, held on and conquered Latin America and all the fruit of his talent and tireless work. “The beginning in Latin America was different from that of Spainbut for this reason I am still very grateful to the Latin American continent, for giving me the opportunity to work my music in a completely different way from the one that emerged here in Spain”, he recalled .

“I’m always looking for ways to improve and keep working as a team, that’s the secret of everything I’ve been through. But if I have the impression that it is a very difficult job, very hard, people do not imagine it at all because he only sees the beautiful or the positive. But if it’s hard for them to give you the opportunity, it’s harder to try to stay. If, in addition, you prolong it in time for so long, it’s difficult. There is nothing automatic. You can’t put on autopilot and your career is on its own, it doesn’t exist“, he assured on what it means to be an artist of his level.

Now he’s going through these 20 years on the Teatro Albéniz stage with 20 sold-out concerts. And then will come the recording and the tour. Because it’s always a must.

We wanted to remember with him 20 moments of these 20 years.

1. On this day, you met the person who would mark a turning point in your career.

It was nice. I consider that in Miami surely. I remember Jesús López and also Narcís Rebollo whom I met in Spain. They are two very important people to me.

2. That time you dared with a genre that meant stepping out of your comfort zone.

In 2007. The song is called Babel Towercon Wisin and Yandel and with Vincent Friendmixing flamenco, urban music and pop.

3. This time, you felt immense joy when they offered you a collaboration.

All the collaborations I have experienced have felt immense joy, from Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus, Alexander Sanz, Raphael, Arturo Sandoval, the turn strip, Alexandre Fernandez, Jean-Gabriel… there are many colleagues and I had the chance to share music with them.

4. The time you met the artist you admired.

Very short, it was a hug, a greeting and many times it’s better to have that distance so that your mind doesn’t go any further, everything stays close and with the music, which is the best relationship than the we can have with others. artists you really like.

5. That time you cried on stage.

I cried several times on stage. In Almería I was very moved and it was probably when I remembered my friend Edu, may he rest in peace.

6. This time you heard one of your songs and you were particularly excited.

I got emotional with a lot of songs, but usually it’s usually the ballads. I remember hearing My princess which moved me a lot or some of the current ballads which have also been very important in my career and which have to do with my life, the love of my family. But usually the ballads are the ones that move you the most, I don’t know why. I don’t know if a fast song can move you… it can move you in another way. But on the sentimental level, more ballads.

7. This time you knew what it was like to experience Eurovision.

It was spectacular for me. Having experienced Eurovision and accompanied Pink at the time it was spectacular. It was the only time I went on stage without pressure because I was doing choirs, I knew very well what my lesson was and I went to support Rosa with the best energy in the world and so it was probably the most special day And what else did I like on stage?

8. This time you found yourself overwhelmed by the situation.

I have been overwhelmed by many situations in my life. Throughout my career, in promotions, concert tours, recording records, songs, music videos, photo shoots, looking for costumes… I have often been overwhelmed with work. And in life there are also many situations that can overwhelm you, but nothing that cannot be resolved.

9. That time you received an award that made you particularly excited.

The nomination as the Favorite Son of Almería and the nomination as the Favorite Son of Andalusia made me particularly excited because it is true that the music prizes excite you a lot because you feel that it is a prize for your work, but when this type of price occurs, it makes you feel like people are hugging you, it’s different and it excites you a lot.

10. At that time, you knew you were an international artist.

Often when you go to work in other countries it doesn’t mean that you are an international artist, it takes a bit of time to feel that all countries are already included in all promotion plans. My album Premonición was the union of all the countries of Latin America and also of Europe because they gave me the opportunity to travel and be part of the marketing plans of my colleagues in England, where the headquarters of the rest of the countries of Europe are located. Probably with my third disc, yes.

11. This time you enjoyed watching one of your children listen to one of your songs.

During my concert in Almería, I saw the three of them having fun. The little ones, with their helmets, I remember perfectly. I brought them closer to see them and it was very exciting, I really liked it.

12. This time I sang a song thinking about your wife.

I always think of my wife at some point during my concerts because there are songs which are dedicated to her and which are ours. Throughout the tour and at each concert.

13. This time you particularly enjoyed being in the recording studio.

I really enjoyed the process of creating this record. I have a working method that I love, I really like working with different producers. I like to compose with many authors, but I always record my voice in the studio of Pablo CebrianWhether he’s the producer or not, I don’t care. I go to his studio and record my voice because I feel like my vocal settings are perfectly tuned and I’m going live. And I have nothing to do at all except work on the song.

14. That time you thought you couldn’t go on.

Sometimes I think it’s important that people understand that in the music world sometimes you feel alone, I don’t agree with what you think, I don’t agree with some colleagues, I have the impression that there is no feeling. And you have to leave time to breathe and look for solutions and this is present in all professions. I felt, not once but several times like that, but we are still looking for a solution. Working in a multinational has these points, that sometimes everything is very good, very good, and other times you don’t coincide so much and the good thing is that everything can always be redirected.

15. That time you enjoyed watching yourself on TV.

I really liked a session he did with my friend Antonio Banderas, black and white session that was in his beautiful Soho TV theater, which was spectacular. We did an acoustic gig and I had a great time. It was a concert in his theatre, but there were barely 12 seats, a very intimate thing. It was recorded in black and white, but suddenly there were small nuances, a rose transformed into color, only the rose, but you were singing in black and white, it was wonderful.

16. This time you felt the weight of criticism.

I generally always receive criticism in a constructive and positive way. I know how to differentiate those that are not at all constructive that you receive just because people want to be funny, but you know how to differentiate them. Admittedly, at the start of your career you are less likely to receive them positively, but today I know how to differentiate them and I receive them well.

17. That time you met someone who looked a lot like you.

There are several people who are very similar to me, but if I had to choose two people, or two artists that I would like to be and why I agree with them, they would be Luis Fonsi and Antonio Banderas. I would like to be Antonio.

18. This time you realized how much influence you could have.

There were many moments of solidarity that I experienced and that all of a sudden I realized that, perhaps not thanks to me, but to the music, which is a very powerful, we were able to contribute our grain of sand and the clubs of Fans responded very well to this help to make this world a little better, and I liked that. But I never felt it was because of me, but because of the music.

19. This time you really enjoyed recording a video clip.

I really appreciated my colleague Fonsi, Twice, was laughing. I think that day we did sit-ups because of everything we laughed at because it was so funny. We did it the old way. Our gym membership card had practically expired and he and I dressed very ridiculously and this moment was very funny.

20. This time you felt like you had a dream come true.

I’m continually fulfilling dreams, honestly. Every day that I wake up and am happy with my family, for me it is a dream. There are dreams that come true and dreams that stay and I would like to keep this dream for the rest of my life.
