A 23-year-old Cuban woman was arrested at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge for carrying 99 pounds of methamphetamine valued at more than $1.9 million in her vehicle.

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office reported in a statement that the Caribbean woman had hidden the drug in the gas tank of a Chevy Malibu with which she intended to enter the United States from Mexico.

Officers found the narcotic packages using non-intrusive imaging equipment to examine the vehicle.

After being arrested at the border bridge, the Georgia-based woman was handed over to staff from the National Security Investigation Agency (HSI) who will be handling the case.

Carlos Rodríguez, director of said border facility, commented that this seizure is in addition to interceptions carried out in the past days where the entry of hard drugs into the American union was also prevented.

“This type of drug is preferred by smuggling organizations that are trying to introduce illicit substances into our communities,” said the official.

The aforementioned narcotic is also known as ice or crystal and is very addictive because it causes an apparent feeling of well-being that reduces appetite and increases physical activity.

This stimulant causes serious health problems, mainly in the nervous system, because it is made of dangerous chemicals such as acetone and ammonia.
