This Friday, the Florida State hearing against Manuel Marín, the co-founder of Presidente supermarkets, was held, where they seek to reach a plea agreement to give him 25 years in prison.
“No sir”, expressed Marín through the words of a translator, making it clear that he did not accept said agreement.
According to the prosecution, Marín, 69, faces 27 years in prison, since he is accused of being involved in the murder of businessman Camilo Salazar in June 2011.
The body of the man who was allegedly his then-wife’s lover, appeared tortured, decapitated and burned in a rural area near the Everglades.
The case involved three other people who have already faced justice. One has reached a plea deal, while a second is serving 15 years in prison and a third is in prison for life.
Were present in the room this Friday relatives of the victim, who preferred not to make statements about the hearing.
Manuel Marín, after the incident 12 years ago, remained outside the country. In Spain, he was arrested and then extradited to Miami-Dade County in 2019, where he was required by police authorities.
Jury selection will begin next week and the trial could begin on March 20.
