A person near the area rescued a child who fell into the Santa Ana Riverbed on Sunday.

The Orange County Fire Authority received a call about the child at 2:05 p.m., according to an OCFA statement.

“A young child was swept away and walked approximately half a mile in the Santa Ana River bed this afternoon when he got too close to the water’s edge,” the OCFA tweeted. “The boy’s father went into the water to look for him but couldn’t. Fortunately, a passerby saw the boy floating in the river, jumped in and was able to rescue him.”

An OCFA Swift water rescue team responded but found the three already out of the water in the Fairview Street and riverbed area, authorities said.

“While we have a break from the rain, there is or may still be water flowing through Orange County waterways,” the OCFA said. “We strongly recommend everyone to stay away. It doesn’t take much water to wash people in the river, where there are many dangers.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene and he had stable vital signs when he was taken to hospital.
