Dodgers Opening Day

The Dodgers open 2023 at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The first launch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

The Dodgers, with 111 wins, were shocked to lose to the Padres in the 2022 National League Division Series, who are among the challengers in a division dominated by Los Angeles. The Dodgers have won nine of the last 10 National League West titles.

“It’s a good division. It’s been a number of years,” Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw said. “The Diamondbacks have improved. Their rotation is good. They have guys who can really hit. The Giants too, but obviously the Padres. They beat us last year in the playoffs. They have a good team. We like ours even if there are chances.”

The Dodgers said goodbye to All-Star Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner this offseason. They also have key injuries ahead of opening day.

Shortstop Gavin Lux is out for a year after tearing his ACL. All-Star pitcher Tony Gonsolin is on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. Pitcher Blake Treinen is on the 60-day disabled list after right shoulder surgery. Pitcher Daniel Hudson is progressing after a torn ACL. All-Star pitcher Walker Buehler underwent Tommy John surgery and could possibly return at the end of the season.

LA will look to left-handed pitcher Julio Urías to start on Thursday. The honor went to Kershaw, a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner, nine times since 2011.

National League West rival San Francisco opens the season at 10:30 a.m. PT against the Yankees in New York. The Padres host the Rockies at 1:10 p.m. The Angels are in Oakland to face the A’s at 7:07 p.m.
