This Monday, José Enrique Núñez, 35, appeared in court, two days after being arrested by Miami police in the company of a woman identified as Danielle Duran with whom he allegedly committed an armed robbery.
Police say the suspects were fleeing after flying into Allapattah on Saturday and ended up crashing at an intersection in northwest Miami-Dade, where they collided with another vehicle in their attempt to flee.
The arrest report says their escape attempt led them to the intersection of Northwest 32nd Avenue and 14th Street where their escape plan ended in failure.
“They presented a firearm and some items were stolen from a neighborhood in Allapattah,” said Miami police spokesman Capt. Freddy Cruz. “Our officers saw the car accelerate, collided with this white car in the back.”
Witnesses to the event say the suspects ignored the stop sign, collided with another vehicle, made two turns on the sidewalk and a few seconds later their car caught fire and “they got out of the car with their weapon,” according to the police.
Beberlyn Sánchez, who lives in the neighborhood, said she noticed “there were a lot of police on the street and there was a helicopter around.”
The perimeter that the authorities secured on Saturday was extensive and even the SWAT team participated in the operation since the two subjects fled on foot after the vehicle accident. However, a few hours later they were captured in the same neighborhood.
The accused man remains in custody at TGK Miami-Dade County Jail without bond. And police have confirmed that the arrested woman is still in hospital.
