An Ohio State Hospital, USA, acknowledged that a patient received a new kidney actually intended for someone else. The event has caused outrage in the community.
Officials at University Hospitals of Cleveland apologized for the error and said two employees are on administrative leave. Despite the error, the kidney is compatible with the person who received it and it is expected that it will recover.
At the moment, the operation of the other patient is delayed. The authorities said that the medical center is studying how the error happened to prevent it from being repeated later.
“We have sincerely apologized to those patients and their families.”Said spokesman George Stamatis in a statement. “We acknowledge that they entrusted their treatment to us. The situation is totally inconsistent with our commitment to help patients regain health and live their lives fully.”.
The University Hospitals of Cleveland has reported the situation to the Single Organ Exchange Network, which manages the national transplant system in USA.
