Who is Phineas Nigellus Black in Hogwarts Legacy?
The school principal of Hogwarts Legacy is a man named Phineas Nigellus Black, voiced by Simon Pegg. If you’re wondering, yes, he’s related to Sirius Black, the godfather of Harry Potter. Phineas is Sirius’ great-grandfather and is considered by many to be the most unloved Headmaster Hogwarts has ever had. You can see it many times, like him canceling Quidditch season and the students bashing him as you walk through the school. Even the teachers have no respect for the man.
When Black started at Hogwarts, he was the teacher of an unfamiliar class and didn’t like dealing with students. Later, the Ministry of Magic pressured him to accept the position of headmaster, and he continued to look down on students, especially those who weren’t pure-blooded wizards.
Phineas died in 1925, and like other Headmasters, he had a portrait placed in the Headmaster’s office so that he could offer his advice to people who would later take on the role, such as Albus Dumbledore. Phineas didn’t like Dumbledore because of the respect he showed Muggles. He often yelled at everyone and was of no help, although he delivered an important message from Dumbledore to Sirius at the Black House on the The order of the Phoenix book that would ultimately save Arthur Weasley’s life.
Phineas Black also appears in the Deathly Hallows book, while Harry, Ron, and Hermione take his portrait with them to find out what happens at school when hunting Horcruxes. However, he betrays them and reveals their location.
In general, Phineas Nigellus Black is an easy person to hate. He discriminates against a certain type of people who are just trying to live their lives, and everyone despises him for that in the long run. Reminds you of a certain author, huh?
