In Hogwarts Legacy, Ancient Magic is a very ancient and powerful form of magic that was forgotten in the 19th century when the game is set. It’s so weird that even Hogwarts teachers don’t know it properly . Those who can handle it are considered very unique. Wielders can use ancient magic in battle to inflict devastating damage on their opponents.
We first see this in Hogwarts Legacy when the protagonist can see their footprints through a blue aura as they walk towards Hogwarts. They later discover that they had the ability to use it in battle and uncover various secrets steeped in ancient magic. In the game, there are three known wielders of ancient magic, the protagonist, Percival Rackham and Isidora Morganach. Interestingly, all three joined Hogwarts as fifth year students. It is therefore possible that ancient magic is somehow related to those who are late.
How to Get and Use Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy
While players will be able to see ancient magic in the early stages of the game, they will be able to properly use it when on a quest to visit Hogsmeade and need to defeat the troll in later stages. There, while you’re in the middle of the fight, you’ll be able to wield ancient magic.
After the fight against the trolls, you will be able to use ancient magic in all kinds of encounters in the game. There are two types of ancient magic skills in the game:
- ancient magic: This ability can be used when your old magic meter, which is colored blue, is full. The meter can be refilled by performing combos on enemies. Once it fills up, a prompt to use ancient magic will appear. It often works as a finisher as enemies are completely destroyed or knocked back when hit by ancient magic. Additionally, when enemies are downed with combos, blue orbs will drop which players can also collect to refill the meter.
- Distribution of ancient magic: This throwing ability allows you to use ancient magic to pick up items and throw them at enemies. A message will appear when there are throwables nearby. This ability deals more damage to human enemies than to non-humans in combat.
