Jean Guesdon has announced that she is leaving Ubisoft Montreal. The developer, who has worked on games in the Assassin’s Creed series such as Black Flag and Origins, has been with the company for 17 years.

Ubisoft has been going through a tough time lately. The French company faces several financial problems, cancels certain projects, or at best postpones its release (Skull and Bones). On top of that, there’s the issue of closing small branches. As if that weren’t enough, Ubisoft Montreal loses one of the company’s veterans, Jean Guesdon.

“I cannot express all that I owe to this exceptional company. I have met so many people, acquired many skills and carried out many projects. (…) A big thank you Ubi”, wrote the developer on LinkedIn.

Guesdon joined Ubisoft Montreal in 2005 as production coordinator, working on the project that later became Assassin’s Creed. Since then, he has settled into the team responsible for the brand.

Beginning with Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag in 2013, Guesdon served as the series’ creative director. His role ended with AC: Origins, without being involved in Unity work.

Guesdon’s last project at Ubisoft Montreal was an unreleased title. The producer had been involved with the project since 2018. It is speculated that it could be the game codenamed Renaissance, which is a co-op voxel-based title with a Minecraft twist.

Guesdon is another veteran who decided to say goodbye to the company. Earlier, Eric Baptizat and Raphael Lacoste made a similar move. Baptizat currently works at EA Motive, while Lacoste works at Haven, a new studio founded by former Ubisoft employee Jade Raymond.

As of this writing, Jean Guesdon has not revealed his future plans.
