Diablo 4’s open beta turned out to be the biggest such event in the series’ history. Blizzard released an infographic, according to which over 61.5 million hours have been spent in the world of Sanctuary.

As you might have guessed, the Diablo IV open beta turned out to be a success. the biggest event of its kind in the history of the series. Blizzard illustrated their ladder as follows infographics. In total, probably both in early access and proper testing, we’ve spent 61,560,437 hours in the world of Sanctuary. It’s a lot! Besides:

  • we mainly chose necromancer and mage character classes;
  • We have exterminated 29,252,746,339 monsters,
  • by dying 46,924,644 times;
  • Butcher was responsible for 1,727,973 of those deaths,
  • who, in turn, was assassinated “only” 576,662 times;
  • even more rarely the demon Ashvawa fell from our hands, “only” 107,426 times;
  • she, in turn, has killed players a total of 10,163,397 times.

The infographic shows another stat: the number of players who successfully obtained a cosmetic item called the Wolf Carrier. This required progressing to level 20 with at least one character. This “challenge” was completed by a total of approximately 2.6 million players.

How many have not gone that far? We don’t know, but we can assume there are quite a few, maybe even two or three times as many. Does this mean that 10 million players participated in the Diablo IV beta? Unfortunately, we have very little data to reliably estimate this. It’s still very likely: it would then result in an average of about 6 hours of play per person.

The Wolf Carrier data tells us one more thing, and that is that the stats that Blizzard share after the early access beta testing phase (see infographic below), they are included in the above. Indeed, progress was carried over from Phase 1 to Phase 2, which is likely why Blizzard didn’t include these numbers in the infographic, but instead provided them separately.

The community is asking Blizzard for one more weekend for Diablo IV before launch (“at least for pre-orders!”). Will the developer honor this request before June 6, the expected release date of the game on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne and XSX/S? I wouldn’t count on it, but we’ll see.
