They want more games like Wordle? With its release and explosion in popularity at the end of 2021 and beyond, Wordle has continued to keep gamers busy with their daily crossword puzzles. Wordle’s simple concept (guess a five-letter word in six tries using the limited clues given) makes it the perfect everyday brain teaser.

Even with the internet trending towards the next viral sensation, it’s no wonder that one of the best browser games of the past few years is still going strong today. If you’re still playing OG, our sister site Pocket Tactics has Wordle’s answer every day. But what if you want to go ahead and try something a little different? Well, there is certainly no shortage of PC games inspired by free guessing games. Some focus on specific topics, while others twist the simple five-letter format in interesting ways. With that in mind, here are the best games like Wordle.

The best games like Wordle are:

actor

If you want to test your encyclopedic knowledge of movie actors, then Actorle is the game for you. You will have eight chances to guess which actor appeared in a movie list. However, the names of these movies are hidden, only the release year, genres and IMDb rating are displayed. At least you’re given a few more clues about incorrect guesses, as this will narrow down the correct actor’s age (and movies if the two appeared in a movie together).

food

Foodle, as the name suggests, is a Wordle-style game all about food. Unlike other entries on the list that like to complicate things a bit, there are no new gimmicks to deal with. Of course, you’ll still have to deal with food-related words (like a spoon), though the theme scales things down for a more relaxed experience.

listen

Think you know your music? Well, Heardle will put that to the test. Instead of guessing the words, you have to understand the music based on their introductions. Starting with just one second, incorrect (or skipped) guesses will gradually give you more lead to work with. Even if not successful, all daily songs are available for later listening through Spotify. Who knows, you might find your next favorite song thanks to Heardle.

nerd

Nerdle takes things away from words and instead uses mathematical calculations. Each guess should have eight numbers and symbols, with an equals sign somewhere; of course, the actual equation must also be correct.

As with Wordle, you will be told if something is in the right place or if it is part of the solution. However, it is still one of the more complicated games like Wordle due to the number of possible guesses even with hints. Definitely one to play if you’re looking for more of a challenge.

Games like Wordle: Gamedle

game

If you’re like us, then you probably enjoy games. Luckily, there is a perfect Wordle-style play on video games in the form of Gamedle. Every day a new game cover will be featured. Most of the image will be pixelated, with more revealed after incorrect guesses. You’ll get hints if your guesses are the right genre or platform, and most skins will include the name of the game if you’re really stuck.

squirrel

For Pokemon fans who have memorized the 900+ collectible monsters, Squirdle will be your thing. Advice is given in a number of ways, ranging from highlighting the correct generation of Pokemon the solution came from, to their types and their height. And, if you’re looking for some first-generation nostalgia, it’s possible to limit which generations of Pokemon will appear for each challenge.

Games like Wordle: Crosswords

Crossword

Going back to something closer to the original Wordle, Crosswordle takes the concept and combines it with crosswords (well, sort of). Instead of a single word, you now have to guess two separate intersecting words. Fortunately, the general rules remain the same, where clues are given based on the letters you’ve used previously. Crosswordle is worth checking out if you don’t want to stray too far from the main Wordle game, but still play something new.

bandage

Flagle is another self-explanatory wordle that makes you guess flags from around the world. Each daily flag is divided into six parts, with failed guesses revealing a new section. With hundreds of potential flags to choose from every day, Flagle has the potential to be extremely difficult (especially if one of the less unique flags is the solution). If you’re confident in your knowledge of geography, there are at least a few distance-based suggestions that every guess is far from the correct answer.

World

Moving from flags to more general geographic knowledge, Worldle tasks players with discovering the right country or territory based on its shape. Unlike Flagle (or most Wordle-style games), you’ll receive a silhouette of the required country from the start. This can make things a little easier, which is why the developer has also included a number of settings to complete the challenge. It is possible to rotate the silhouette, or even remove it entirely for maximum difficulty.

hello world

To come full circle, Hello Wordl is just normal Wordle but with more options to choose from. Although you can play an identical game with the same settings, the fun of Hello Wordl comes from changing the length of the words you have to guess. Instead of five letters, you can go up to eleven.

If the prospect of solving increasingly longer word puzzles isn’t appealing, try the shuffle option instead. While Hello Wordl still includes a daily mode, it’s also possible to continue playing through an unlimited number of puzzles.

And these are ten of the best games like Wordle. There’s more than enough here to keep you busy for a few minutes each day. Maybe one day we’ll see some of these in Minecraft builds, just like the original Wordle. Alternatively, if you’ve had enough of words and want some action, our list of the best PC games in 2023 should be your guide.
