Sony Interactive Entertainment want to rent non-fungible tokens (NFT) to gamers and streamers, according to a recently published patent.

Sony’s latest patent suggests that the company may be introducing NFTs to the PlayStation ecosystem on PS4 and PS5 in the near future, and PlayStation Stars members may already be getting a taste of what’s to come.

In August, a PlayStation investigation sparked controversy due to questions related to interest in NFTs. Two months later, the PlayStation Stars loyalty program would launch with digital collectibles sharing similarities to NFTs despite having no monetary value.

These digital collectibles led some PlayStation fans to believe that NFTs would eventually make their way to PlayStation services. Additionally, a Sony patent made public in November 2022 suggested that PlayStation was developing NFTs and blockchain technology. And now the company’s plans for NFTs have been made even clearer with the latest patent.

A new Sony patent suggests that the company wants to rent NFTs to PlayStation 5 gamers and streamers. Specifically, the patent describes an interconnected system that provides users with an offer to rent an NFT that represents a work or asset of PlayStation games. 5 popular.

Sony wants to “rent” NFTs to gamers and streamers

This limited time offer would be displayed on the console UI with ownership conditions for both single player and spectator. Sony’s patent system indicates that different prices for NFTs will be offered to gamers and viewers respectively. After the rental or rental term expires, the NFT will be put back on the market for others to rent or buy.
