Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has presented the new controller for PlayStation VR, two new controllers for virtual reality that pursue the goal of giving players “a much deeper sense of presence and a more powerful sense of immersion”.

The new controllers will have a spherical shape and will be able to be held naturally, which will allow players to move their hands freely, the video game company reports this Thursday in a statement.

In addition, the action buttons and joysticks are analog.

In this sense, the left control has a joystick, the square and triangle buttons, a grip button (L1), a trigger (L2) and the create button, while the right has also an analog joystick, the buttons of circle and cross, a grip button (R1), a trigger (R2) and the options button.

This new controller also includes some of the innovative features present in the DualSense wireless controller: the use of adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and touch detection.

Adaptive triggers will allow for unique experiences, adding palpable tension when pressed. This mechanic is ideal for virtual reality and amplifies the gaming experience.

On top of the rest of the functionality, the new controller will also have haptic feedback optimized for its form factor, making every sensation in the game world more impactful, textured and nuanced.

In this sense, when players are traversing a rocky desert or exchanging blows in close combat, they will feel a huge difference, magnifying the extraordinary visual and audio experience that is so central to virtual reality.

As for touch detection, the controller can locate the fingers without pressing in the areas where the thumb, index or heart is placed.
