If you’ve been to the movies to see Super Mario Bros.: The Movie (you should, for many reasons), you surely recognize the big-screen appearance of the former Mario mastermind, Peak, a character that first appeared in the game Wrecking Crew. Although few moviegoers are likely to recognize the character’s legacy, Nintendo has implemented a change across Japan to avoid offending people.

As announced on the company’s Japanese Twitter channel, the character formerly known as Black was renamed in Japan as Spike. This will first take effect when the movie Illumination hits theaters in Japan next week on April 28.

Still, it seems like a better change in every way.
