The movie Super Mario Bros. marks the first collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination. The two parties have not announced any additional plans, but their partnership is expected to continue in the future.

Recently, rant on screen spoke to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination’s Chris Meladandri. Miyamoto noted that he is “confident that we will continue to work on this partnership.” Meladandri also explained how he was part of Nintendo’s board of directors, mentioning that “we are working together in the future with me in this capacity”.

His full lyrics are as follows:

Chris Melandandri: We’re so focused right now on this movie, until Wednesday, and how the audience is interacting with the movie. Nintendo and Illumination have had a truly rewarding collaboration. Mr. Miyamoto and his colleagues have invited me to join Nintendo’s board of directors, and we are working together with me in this capacity in the future. But it’s hard for us to talk about anything else right now.

Shigeru Miyamoto: As Chris mentioned, there’s nothing we can share at this time. But I am sure that we will continue to work on this partnership.

Miyamoto was also asked in the same interview about other Nintendo franchises that might work well with Illumination. He remained silent on that front, but said, “We started with the fact that we have a common creative vision, so I think there will be opportunities down the road.”
