New CoD parts

Call of Duty: Warzone 2the putative name for a sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone, was officially announced on Friday along with the next main game in the series. And this is no less than Modern Warfare 2.

The news broke via social media early Friday afternoon. Mainly by streamers and other creators. There was a smaller blog post by the development team about this.

Warzone 2 & MW 2

Activision later officially confirmed the news in a blog post. CoD’s 2022 base game will be a sequel to the 2019 game Modern Warfare, which has reportedly sold 30 million copies.

This new game and the Warzone sequel were “developed together from the ground up,” according to Activision. Which also means that both games run on a brand new engine that the developers have apparently been working on for some time. Infinity Ward is also leading the development of both upcoming games.

Very little is known about Warzone 2 so far. According to Activision, players can look forward to a “massive advancement” in the Battle Royale formula. The publisher, recently bought by Microsoft, had already teased Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 in advance.

So the announcement isn’t a complete surprise. Additionally, Activision’s management had already confirmed that new Call of Duty games were on the way, after Vanguard and the original Warzone missed the mark by quite a bit.
