Today Square Enix Holdings released a statement advising that effective Monday, May 1, 2023 Luminous Productions Co. will become part of Square Enix Co., both subsidiaries of the company. This reorganization of the Square Enix group aims to increase the competitive value of its development studios.
In Square Enix’s statement, it is said that Square Enix Co. has developed several high-definition (HD) AAA video games, in addition to having a fairly extensive catalog of intellectual properties and content. For its part, Luminous Productions is equipped to develop AAA-scale games and they have experience in the technical aspects of development, so the combination of the two entities will be “improve the Group’s ability to develop HD games”.
Shortly after the Square Enix reorganization was revealed, the team at Luminous Productions released their own statement on the issue. “Starting May 1, our talented team will partner with Square Enix to bring innovative new gaming experiences to gamers around the world.“, indicates the press release, specifying that will focus on Forspoken during the remaining time for that date.
Just over two weeks ago, it was announced that Luminous Productions was working on a patch for Forspoken that seeks to fix its performance on PS5 and PC, which will arrive soon according to the new statement. In addition to working on this patch, Luminous is developing the DLC”At Tanta, we trust”, which should arrive in the summer of 2023.
Luminous Productions was founded in 2018 and Forspoken was its first video game, released on February 10 on PlayStation 5 and Steam on PC. “We appreciate you taking this journey with us and we look forward to continuing to create new entertainment experiences within the Square Enix family,” the Luminous statement concludes.
