League of Legends champion pricing has been a divisive issue for some time, with some entry-level champions being well beyond the reach of new players. Fortunately, in 2023 Riot adjusted the price of MOBA characters to better fit the player ecosystem.

It’s safe to say that League of Legends can be very, very expensive game Stunning skins with adorable cosmetics; there are many ways to empty your wallet. Ironically, buying champions isn’t really one of them.

You can choose characters using blue essence from the game and get them even cheaper if you combine said glowing blue crystals with the champion shards that rarely drop. Personally, I’ve never dropped RP (Riot Points, the game’s premium currency) on a champion, but I may be in the minority.

However, recently players challenged Riot over their pricing scheme, claiming that supposedly newbie-friendly champions like Yuumi still cost too much. In response, Riot confirmed that they’re working on a fix and it’s finally here. Well, it’s coming with patch 13.5, pretty close.

Describing the current pricing model as “a bit archaic”, Champion Lead Designer August ‘August’ Browning and Lead Lead Designer Jordan ‘BarackProbama’ Checkman said that “this new release still carries the age of a champion, but it is no longer directly tied to champion drops.

Instead, it focuses on “the number of seasons the champion has seen rather than the number of champions out since. We plan to keep the existing stream of new champions at a higher starting price and discount after one week, with an additional discount after two seasons, where they will increase based on the data we see with new and old. players.” Champions that are heavily modded can also change based on player data.

New Prizes for League of Legends Champions

All of the new League of Legends champion price ranges are below:

Price (BE/RP) champ kind
450 / 260 Easily accessible beginner champions (ex. Yuumi)
1350 / 585 Accessible champions, but a little more difficult to play (eg Sett)
3150 / 790 Champions with a steep learning curve that takes a lot of practice (ex. LeBlanc)
4800 / 880 Most of the list.
6300 / 975 Champions who have been released in the past two seasons.
7800 / 975 Champions released last week.

Riot (or August, let’s be real) also added another tier that costs 4444/880 for “just perfection and beauty”. Is it only Viego? Who knows, Mr. Browning’s mind is a wild and wonderful place.

In a pompous tone, Kayle, Ryze, Singed, and Twisted Fate will be priced differently like Riot “I don’t think new players can be successful with them.” Its prices are 4800 BE, which is an increase, but its price of 260 RP remains the same. I’m a Kayle player and I respect him 100%.

As someone who still considers themselves relatively new to League of Legends (I’m a season 10 baby, sue me), I think that’s Exactly what the game needed. I’ve always found the current pricing system confusing (especially Yuumi) and in many ways wish I had looked at it sooner. Maybe I wouldn’t have bought Gnar because he was cute and got trashed in the top lane (or maybe I would have, he’s adorable after all).

These changes will also make checking how much you’ve spent on League of Legends a little less of a pain (they won’t be), but they’ll also make you grateful for all the League of Legends Prime Gaming rewards you’ve earned.
