The first witnesses called by the Impeachment Commission will be federal judges and Supreme Court officials

At the fourth meeting of the impeachment committee Since House of Representatives, the ruling party has set a calendar working, requested test extensions and quoted for next week as witnesses several Supreme Court magistrates and judges of other instances in connection with the more than 60 charges brought against the four members of the highest court.

Deputy Kirchneriste Rodolfo Tailhade was responsible for proposing to the vote the convocation of the former head of the judicial secretariat n°5 (distribution which no longer exists in the organization chart of the Supreme Court), Christian Abritta; the deputy director of internal management and qualification dependent on the general administration secretariat (CSJN), Sergio Ruben Romero; Judicial Secretariat No. 2 (CSJN-provisional), Sileno Romulo Cardena Ponce Ruiz; the Original Judgments Secretariat, Alexandre Daniel Rodriguez; and the members of the College of Judge Horacio Rosatti, Roberto Miguel Angel Saggese there Adriana Norma Vilanotti.

They will also summon the judges Alejo Ramos Padille there Sebastian Ramoswith the former senator and member of the Judicial Council, Mario Jorge Cimadevillaand the Secretary General of the Supreme Court Administration, Hector Daniel Marchi.

On the other hand, the ruling party has requested various measures to broaden the evidence, among which the requests addressed to the Directorate for Legal Assistance in Complex Crimes and Organized Crime (DAJuDeCO), the listening office that depends of the Supreme Court, the list of incoming and outgoing calls of Silvio Roblesspokesperson for Rosatti, and Marcelo D´Alessandro, Minister of Security of Buenos Aires on leave. In this way, they seek to corroborate leaked conversations between the two, which contained recommendations related to the dispute over the integration of the Judicial Council.

Most of the committee meeting revolved around the debate on the admissibility of certain evidence and testimony. The spokesperson for the post of Together for Change was Deputy Paul Tonelli (PRO) who assured that “the evidence provided is not intended to prove the poor performance of the judges of the Court” but to “put on a show, unmask the judges or unnecessarily prolong this investigation”.

In this sense, he argued – contrary to what the party in power asserts – that the Commission does not have the power to request miscegenation phone calls. However, he clarified that in any case, it must be requested “through a judge, who must ensure compliance with constitutional guarantees”.

He also said Robles and D’Alessandro cannot be called as witnesses because they are charged in an ongoing criminal case. “They can’t come and testify about something that’s under investigation by federal justice. Besides If they are summoned, all they will do is say that they refuse to testify because it would be testifying against themselves.said Tonelli.

In turn, Tailhade quibbled:Why can’t we request the call list? Can we find a call with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, who has a case in court?”.

And he added: “I wish this defense of safeguards had been made under the Macri government when illegal espionage was on the rise and when Judge Bonadío brought press people left and right.”

Deputy Kirchner rejected Tonelli’s argument and said Robles and D’Alessandro should appear before the commission and say, “I am accused, I cannot testify.” I cannot answer this question. What if they want to declare? Will they oppose it?”

The President of the Federal Interbloc, Alejandro “Topo” Rodriguez, demanded that Alberto Fernández be called as a witness since he was the promoter of one of the projects seeking impeachment. “It was he who decided to launch this impeachment attempt, because he had a fundamental role and because of the information he manages because of his institutional role,” he explained. His proposal was rejected by the official majority.
