WWE champion, record philanthropist, Hollywood star, and one-man meme machine John Cena doesn’t necessarily strike me as the type of person who would play golf. But these are video games, and if we can get a full Pepsiman infinite runner, or a Wu-Tang Clan logo-based controller (yes, there is), then we can definitely get The Doctor of Thuganomics on PGA Tour 2K23. Get ready for cries of “you can’t hit me” when the WWE Champion hits the Steam sports game just in time for a free trial.

Starting April 7, John Cena will join Tiger Woods, Colin Morikawa and fellow non-golfing celebrity Michael Jordan as part of the extensive PGA Tour 2K23 roster. Dressed in a red, white, and blue outfit (naturally) and blessed with tremendous driving power, Cena’s main drawback is his poor shooting accuracy.

As you’d expect from a guy who previously made a living smashing folding chairs at people, he has raw muscle to send the ball down the fairway, but can falter when it comes to the hit on the green.

To celebrate that The Champ is here, PGA Tour 2K23 will be free on Steam from April 6 at 10am PST/1pm EST/6pm GMT until April 10 at the same time. If you are in the AEDT region, PGA Tour 2K23 will be free on Steam from April 7 at 4:00 a.m. AEDT until April 11 at 4:00 a.m. AEDT.

It’s hard to say where this ranks on the list of crazy celebrity/gaming crossovers. 1994’s Revolution X was a full game based on the band Aerosmith, then David Bowie appeared in David Cage’s debut effort, Omikron The Nomad Soul. I guess Fred Durst in the Fight Club game is one for the story.
