Like the Dredge Explosives, these are rewards for a specific quest, this one starts on the northern island of Stellar Basin. We’ll cover a basic overview of the process below, and what you need to know to go ahead and unlock the Abyssal and Hadal Dredge fishing options.

How to Get Abyssal and Hadal Dredge Fishing Rods

To unlock Abyssal and Hadal fishing rods in Dredge, players solo you need to unlock the Abyssal Fishing Rods, at which point you can use the Research Coins you find to progress to the next stage of the Research Tree and get Hadal Fishing Rods in the back of this update initial level. For this reason, we will first discuss fishing rods and the “sampling device” that allows you to catch fishing rods.

Dredge the Nether Fishing Rod and collect all the samples.

The first Nether Fishing Rod you can get in Dredge is called a Sampling Device and is tied to the “Collect All Samples” quest. We’ll see how to do it here and how it works as a whole.

  1. Head to the Old Fortress in the Northern Stellar Basin. It’s on the small island above the main basin itself, the map coordinates D-5.
  2. Talk to the researcher to get the Collect All Samples quest. He wants you to find three kinds of fish: a glowing octopus, an aurora jellyfish, and a firefly squid. They are all found at night, and you don’t need to get them in any order.

  1. Collect the luminous octopus. It spawns in shallow, bright fishing spots at night inside the Star Basin, usually closer to the Tentacle Horror in the middle. It can be caught with a pole or a crab pot.
  2. Collect Aurora Jellyfish. It spawns at night throughout the Star Basin, but you can only catch it by trolling, not with fishing rods. It is an inshore fishery, so make sure your trawl is inshore compatible.
  3. Collect the firefly squid. The firefly squid is another nocturnal coastal catch, also found in the Southwest Stellar Basin. You can get it with a rod or a trawl – look for a telltale glow, like an octopus.

  1. Bring all three to the investigator. You don’t have to do all of these at the same time. In fact, it might be wiser to leave them when you receive them, to make sure they don’t rot before returning them.
  2. Go to the research station. The investigator will ask you to go to the Northeast Star Basin Outpost, inside the Circle Islands.
  3. Get the prototype parts. At the outpost, select “inspect equipment on the table” to get the prototype parts. They will take up two spaces in your cargo bay, so make sure you have room for them.
  4. Give the pieces to the investigator. Take these Prototype Parts to the Researcher in the Ancient Fortress and you’ll complete the quest, earning the Sampling Device in the process!

The sampling device is a fishing rod with lower capabilities, but even the researcher suggests that you upgrade it, something that have what to do to complete the next mission she gives you.

To craft Hadal fish Dredge, all you need to do is use a single research coin to research the fishing rod in the upgrade tree. After the sampling device, bottomless lines, a fishing rod that has both lower and lower capacities. If you need research parts, the research outpost with the prototype parts actually has a few you can use. Once you’ve researched it, head to the pontoon on the other side of the Stellar Pool to buy some bottomless lines and set them up, and you’ll be ready to go fishing some hideous reels. Absolutely pun intended.
