Atomic Heart lets you go to town with your enemies in different ways. Inspired by the Bioshock franchise, this first-person shooter delivers guns, melee weapons, and powers through a polymer gauntlet to wreak havoc in your wake. However, all of these options fall short of the more primitive act of throwing something at an unsuspecting enemy. Although the game teaches you how to use this nifty feature, you may have been too busy to notice or just didn’t care until now. Let’s see how easy it is to pick up items and throw them at your enemies in Atomic Heart.

Can you drop items in Atomic Heart?

Early in the game, during the Vavilov chapter, you’ll learn how to pick up and throw objects through Charles, your nifty little talking glove. If you missed the dialog, here are the default commands used to get things started:

  • Pick up the item by getting close enough and pressing F on your keyboard, Right Bumper on an Xbox controller, or R1 on a PlayStation controller.
  • Hold down the button you just used to pick up the item, which will cause Sergey to remove his hand to aim and prepare to throw.
  • Release the button to throw the object in the direction you pointed your hand. Aiming higher will increase the distance to the object, so plan accordingly, and it has a little lob effect.

There is a selection of things available in the environment that Sergey can cast. It should be noted that this feature is useful for distracting Dandelion CCTV cameras as you sneak past them. It can also be used simply as a combat mechanism when ammo is low or to save ammo. Enemies react to thrown objects, so be sure to aim well when using it.
