If you want to expand your inventory and increase the number of equipment slots you have in Hogwarts Legacy, you will need to complete many Trials of Merlin to earn milestones in the Trials of Merlin challenge. Each stage grants you more equipment slots and there is no other way to increase them. Merlin’s Trials are puzzles and challenges spread across the world of Hogwarts Legacy, and some of them are harder to solve than others. One of the most difficult is in the rocky fields west of Hogsmeade, northwest of Puffskein Den. It’s located next to a small camp, but luckily not inhabited by goblins or bandits (or anyone else, for that matter).

The third cloud of butterflies can be found north of the Merlin Trial marker, near some moonstone deposits embedded in the cliff. Launch Lumos near them and they will follow you to the third and final Moonstone Pillar. Getting the moths on all three pillars will complete Merlin’s Trial and get you one step closer to getting more gear slots.
