In Barotrauma you can mine minerals which can be turned into resources needed for crafting. If you’re wondering how to get them, here’s the answer.

Barotrauma is an elaborate submarine simulator where every action is a challenge. One misstep and all your plans can end in failure. This even applies to seemingly simple things like resource extraction. From there, you will learn how to locate minerals and extract them.

Barotrauma: how to search for minerals?

In Barotrauma it is possible to find many different minerals. They can be located on virtually any rock around you. However, their appearance is not extremely frequent, so checking everything in sight is a waste of time and resources.

It is definitely better to use mineral scanners. To do this, you need to open the sonar panel, put it in active mode and activate the function shown in the graphic below.

Please note, however, that not all devices offer this option. By default, it is integrated with Handheld Sonar. However, the article has certain limitations. This tool requires battery power and you also need to designate someone to monitor the scanner. So please use it if you need to get off the ship. Then you can take this device with you and search for resources on occasion. You should of course be aware that working sonar makes sounds that may attract the attention of local wildlife.

The second and most effective option is to use the navigation terminal. The captain can search for minerals during standard navigation. In this case, however, the option is not unlocked by default. It must be purchased at one of the outposts from someone who specializes in ship upgrades. (marked with a green icon with arrows pointing up). Note, however, that this mod is only available for reconnaissance and transport ships.

There is also an option to bypass this limitation and save money. In the ship editor you can overwrite the selected ship. You don’t need to be familiar with engineering to do this. Just go to the settings panel of the navigation terminal and check the option “Has a mineral scanner”.

Barotrauma: how to extract minerals?

Once you have located the resource deposits, all you have to do is mine them. To do this, you need to take a plasma cutter. Then swim to the ore and aim the torch at it. After a while, the crystal will shatter, which can then be picked up and taken back to the ship.

However, remember that the plasma cutter is powered by an oxygen tank. Therefore, you should always have some with you. Also be careful not to make mistakes. If you connect a tank of welding fuel to the torch, lighting it will cause an explosion.

Barotrauma – dangerous resources

Once you have mined the necessary resources, you can transfer them to the deck and, using the deconstructor, turn them into the minerals you need for crafting. However, before doing this, make sure what you are getting out of it. There are four dangerous elements in the game:

  1. Lithium
  2. Magnesium
  3. Potassium
  4. Sodium

They explode on contact with water. Therefore, if you do not have room in airtight cabinets, it is better not to process minerals that contain these elements. One attack from a bigger monster and your ship will turn into a death trap.
