The Defiant Battleground activity evolved with Week 2 of Season of Defiance in Destiny 2 to focus on Earth’s other front against the forces of darkness, the Cosmodrome. This guide explains how to complete Defiant Battleground: Cosmodrome activities, so you can fend off the Shadow Legion and free your allies further for the Queen.

You will find the Defiant Battleground: Cosmodrome activity in the Cosmodrome patrol area on Earth. You’ll be able to access it for the entire year following the release of Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion. Once you select it, you’ll be matched with other players and go into battle.

The activity starts at the Cosmodrome, and all you have to do is follow the path while killing Cabal. It’s much shorter than the start of Defiant Battleground: EDZ, so you’ll find yourself at the portal where you’ll need to use the Queen’s Power to enter the Ascendant Plane very quickly.

Once you’re on the Ascendant Plane, you’ll have to fight your way through several Taken and destroy a powerful enemy boss. There is nothing more complex in this part of the activity, so you will be able to progress inside the Pyramid once the Taken boss has fallen. However, you will be ambushed by the Shadow Legion Cabal when you enter, so be prepared for a fight.

The Shadow Legion Cabal poses no great threat. However, you will have to face a powerful boss towards the end of the fight. This enemy won’t take much damage before knocking you back into the Ascendant Plane. Return to this area, fighting any enemies you encounter so you can engage again.

When you re-enter the pyramid, the fallen boss will be much more prepared for a fight. The one we fought was called Zatocc, Devoted to The Witness, though that could change from week to week. During this second stage of the fight, you must kill the powerful marked taken enemies that appear in the arena. Next, ignite the Balefire, which produces a shield that will protect you from the damage the gas does to you in the pyramid, before consecrating the possessed essence of those marked enemies and throwing it at the boss. This will break his shield again and deal damage to him.

As soon as you reach the boss’s final health threshold, you will be returned to the Ascendant Plane again. Push through the much stronger possessed presence you’ll find here until you’re back inside the pyramid. At this point the boss has reached a climax and will hit you with shots so it feels like you can’t get out and use the possessed essence you need to bring down his shield. Keep fighting hard and you’ll eventually remove that shield and be able to kill him.

Once the boss is dead, you’ll free the prisoners below and a chest will appear. If you have a hard key, you’ll automatically use it to claim a decent piece of gear with a high power level.
