Armor Charges are a new passive added to Destiny 2’s Armor Mod system. These were added when the Lightfall campaign launched, and the Armor Mod system has been given a brand new look, allowing players to unlock more customization on their versions of Destiny. You’ll want to go out of your way to add armor charges to your build and make sure to stack them as you play. Here’s what you need to know about how armor charges work and what they do in Destiny 2.

What do armor charges do and how do I get them in Destiny 2?

Armor Loadouts are available in the mod customization screen. You can find it on the right side of the main character selection screen, where you change your weapons and armor. Here you can adjust the mods you add to your Guardian, and each armor slot should have a component that directly influences Armor Charge.

Essentially, armor charges are awarded to you for completing specific game mechanics based on the mods you have placed on your build. For example, you can give your guardian the Grenade Kickstart mod, where you can get an armor charge when you pick up a power orb, but the mod also says you consume your armor charge stacks when energy of your grenade is fully spent. This means you might want to save your grenade charge until you have enough armor charges before using it, gaining a fair amount of ability charge, so you use it a lot faster.

It’s a good balance to choose the right amount of armor charges you want to put on your Guardian and which one to use. Unfortunately, not all armor mods that use armor charges give you this benefit, and they come in different colors.

You can find Blue, Green, and Gold Armor Charge mods on this mod page. You’ll want to have a diverse set of these mods woven into your armor, and that makes changing them much easier with the Loadout system. This is how the three unique colors of Armor Charge mods work.

  • Blue Armor Charge Mods – Provides a passive bonus to a specific stat while you hold an Armor Charge
  • Green Armor Charge Modes – Gives you additional ways to gain Armor Charges during a fight, and these can also increase your Armor Charge stacks
  • Gold Armor Charge Mods: Consume your Armor Charge stacks to give you a specific buff, like increased grenade ability damage or reduced damage.

You don’t want too much of each armor loadout type on your character. These three Armor Charge mods work well together, giving you multiple benefits while you play. Which ones work best for your character will vary depending on your overall build, which boils down to the type of subclass you use, their shards, aspects, and various weapons.
