The developers of Hogwarts Legacy will continue to improve the game before it is available to all interested parties. Let’s see what bugs early players encountered.

It looks like Hogwarts Legacy didn’t disappoint. After many years (and delays), Harry Potter fans have finally received a really good game set in the wizarding universe, albeit without the main character.

However, it’s hard to expect such an elaborate production to go smoothly. On the game’s official website, you can find a list of bugs that plague Hogwarts Legacy before its official debut.

Some of them should be fixed in the version update. Still, they’re worth mentioning upfront in case they log a bug or two (and hopefully no more). Also, some players have been having fun at Hogwarts Legacy since Monday and have come across quite a few interesting “surprises”.

Hogwarts Legacy: A List of Known Issues

Force closing the game.

Unfortunately, the list of bugs present in Hogwarts Legacy opens with the universally hated desktop crashes. The game closes with force already at the beginning, in the acceptance phase of the user license or screen with notice of possible epileptic seizures.

Problems are not resolved in any way once the game has started. It happens that after the first hours (or tens of minutes) without major crashes, the game starts to crash suddenly. Sometimes repeats when performing tasks or projecting scenes. Other times it is difficult to find a link between individual cases of failure.

Therefore, it is difficult to indicate a universal way to solve these problems. In the case of Steam, some players are reporting (via Reddit) that it helped them verify game files after restarting the platform’s client. Others recommend installing the latest GPU drivers or, as always, when all else fails, reinstalling Hogwarts Legacy.

It is possible that one of the reasons is a memory leak, as happened with recent Pokémon and Anno 1800. For now, players can only wait for the launch update (see the section “Hogwarts Legacy: changes for the premiere”).

Paint my world green and blue

Visual and optimization issues have already been written about, also in the context of player feedback. However, sudden drops in performance (even on powerful PCs) and ugly character models (and locations lacking detail) don’t exhaust the list of all these issues. The last issue is said to be fixed by changing the texture setting to ultra, but this significantly reduces performance.

Some of them turned out to be very easy to solve, for example blue and green characters outside the scenes. Here it was not so much a bug, but rather the activation of the high contrast mode. Changing this setting to disabled removes this “bug”.

Some of the issues that are still present are little things like a weird visual glitch in scenes with Professor Eleazar Fig or bushes turning white at a distance (resolved by lowering the quality of materials). There are also times when throwing a stone into the water has unintended consequences.

Tasks that cannot be completed

One of the popular tips from people who already play Hogwarts Legacy is: save the game before each task. These days, there are times when the game makes it impossible to complete tasks, even those needed to progress through the main story.

A particularly unlucky search is Mission “Secrets of the Forbidden Books Department”. If the protagonist does not have an inventory slot and opens a chest containing a key, you will not receive the key, but the game will mark the chest as open, preventing further interaction and thus quest completion.

It also happens that the player receives the key, but the quest log does not record it, which also blocks further progress. Some netizens have encountered a similar error in other quests, such as “Keys to Daedalus”.

Another problem occurs in the task called Jackdaw’s Rest. Apparently the game wants mages to rest there a bit more. Or even for eternity, because players cannot leave the title location.

Sometimes this is hindered by a barrier at the exit, which should disappear after defeating the guards. Other times a platform does not appear, which the player should be able to summon with spells to exit the cave or island. In both cases, there is no point in restarting the mission; it is better to load the save file or restart the game.

Players are also reporting issues completing the “Alohomora” quest. After abandoning the mission, it is impossible to talk to Gladwin Moon afterwards. Here too, the only solution is to load the save file before starting the mission (you can certainly also immediately go to Moon and start the mission with it).

Black magic

Some players have also found bugs that don’t suggest as much as confirm the existence of dark magic. Sometimes when exploring Hogwarts, the characters appear out of nowhere. Other times, a character is punished for running around the castle walls by falling out of the world and ending their life in a violent fall.

Bad luck can also be the reason why some people playing on Xbox Series X/S (less often: on PC) cannot enter the name of the hero. The problem is present even when the keyboard is plugged in, but for some it disappeared after turning off the console and restarting it after a short rest.

Hogwarts Legacy – changes for the premiere

It should be mentioned that Warner Bros. Interactive has already detailed the contents of the first update for Hogwarts Legacy (via Update Crazy). No details were given, but it was written that the patch would introduce, among other changes, the following:

  1. fixes for bugs that force the game to quit;
  2. Game fixes for more stability, smoother performance, and lag removal;
  3. game optimization and fixes.

The full list of changes should be published with tomorrow’s debut Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PS5 and XSX/S. Remember that the game is also heading to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles (release date: April 23) and Nintendo Switch (July 25).
