The latest chapter in Microsoft and Activision Blizzard’s never-ending saga comes in the form of comments from Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, who didn’t hold back his thoughts on Sony’s role in the process.

Speaking to the Financial Times this week, Kotick accused Sony’s management team of “suddenly” not being able to communicate with Microsoft, suggesting the company may be “attempting to sabotage the deal”. He reportedly told the outlet that his own calls to Sony executives were also not returned.

“Suddenly the entire management team at Sony stopped talking to anyone at Microsoft…I think that’s all Sony is trying to sabotage the deal.”

“The very idea that we are not going to support PlayStation or that Microsoft is not going to support PlayStation is absurd.”

In response, Sony told the outlet that the company was in touch with Microsoft, but had “no further comment on our private negotiations.”

Kotick also mentioned during the chat that he thought the UK CMA had been “co-opted into the ideology of the FTC” without thinking about “how this transaction would positively impact the UK”. This follows an interim verdict from the UK authority earlier this week which suggested the takeover could prove detrimental to the industry.

However, despite the CMA’s concerns, Kotick remains optimistic that the deal with Microsoft will close in July 2023.
