Almost from launch, Guild Wars 2 embraced the “living world” system to fill the game with new stories and content. These contents have always been somewhat controversial as some only came temporarily and some could only be unlocked for free for a while. A system that I never liked and that ended up being suitable for all players.

Now Arenanet is looking to the future and since they recently shut down one of their biggest stories, they are going to opt for a maybe more traditional system. They will focus more on releasing expansions on a more ongoing basis and in between releasing content that enriches that expansion.

Our next extensions of Guild Wars 2 will be the central pillar of this new approach. Instead of releasing an expansion every two or four years with a Living World season in between, we’ll be releasing smaller expansions more frequently and adding additional content for those expansions via quarterly updates, so it’s not never more than a few months before the next one. major launch.

The first release of this cycle of expansions will be the starting point for a new story arc that will bring two new open-world maps, two strike missions, new gameplay and combat features, new areas and new rewards . In the next quarterly updates we will add another open world map, additional story chapters, challenge modes for raid missions, a new fractal dungeon and its challenge mode, new rewards and expansions on the new systems that will come with the expansion. When the expansion story ends, the next will be just around the corner.

The next content will arrive on February 28, and you won’t have to rush to unlock it in time. All players of Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons will have access to it at all times.

Here is a preview of our upcoming updates. We will announce the dates of these and the mentioned betas when we are close to their launch.
