If carrying a bunch of plates while crushing the undead in the skull sounds like your ideal playstyle in Dark and Darker, Cleric might be your calling. The Cleric excels in group play with his ability to heal others and resurrect, but the viability of heavy armor can make him a viable solo character once you rack up some cash. With the right setup, the Cleric can be a powerhouse of holy justice in the late game – here’s our Darkest and Darkest Cleric class creation guide.

Note: This guide is current for Playtest #4.

Best Cleric Perks

Players can add additional perks every five levels, up to level 15. This means a total of four perk slots, as the initial slot is unlocked during character creation. This means that players will want to load up on the most important perks for the first few initial dungeon dives and then supplement those perks with future addons. The Cleric, however, can excel in solo and group play, so the perks you want to choose will likely change depending on your environment. Here is our cleric buff request based on the two dynamics.

Level Solo Party
1 Mastery of blunt weapons Kindness
5 undead murder advanced healer
ten master brewer requiem
15 advanced healer perseverance

If you’re playing someone else, you might want to add more damage buffs to your build to help gauge enemy damage, as a single DPS can fight mobs. However, Kill Undead is a huge plus for both, as it allows the Cleric to specialize against undead enemies, of which there are plenty in Dark and Darker. An often overlooked perk is Brewmaster, allowing Clerics to benefit from Ale’s huge strength buff without getting drunk, turning them into PvP juggernauts in a melee.

The best team of clerics

Heat shields are considered the best shields for any character using them, due to their balance of size and weight. The Mace or the Morning Star will probably be your best companions with the Heat Shield. Bigger weapons like the War Maul can offer a lot more power, but losing a shield is too detrimental both solo and in a group. As a secondary location, Book of Spells is an easy choice for its potential benefits.

However, in terms of statistics, much of this can be dismissed. The most important stat for the Cleric is Awareness, as it allows the cleric to use many more spells in the dungeon. While some caveats may apply, such as strength modifiers for more aggressive Priests, most Priests will want to try and max out their Knowledge attribute through gear. Clerics start with only 12 knowledge, and the massive on-demand revive buff takes up 8 of those 12 slots.

Best Cleric Skills

This tends to change depending on where and what you plan to fight, but the rule of thumb for cleric skills are the two that are automatically selected at character creation: holy purification (PvE focus) o Judgement (focused on PvP), and spell memory. Without spell memory, the cleric becomes a weak melee class because he cannot cast any spells.

Holy Purification gives Clerics a massive AoE attack against all undead creatures within 7.5 meters. This is useful if you’ve been ambushed by multiple mummies, or in the central room of the Crypt 1 map, where a large number of undead are guarding a large horde of treasure. Casting takes time, of course, but being able to deal 100 damage to every enemy within radius is invaluable whether you’re solo or in a group. Alternatively, Judgment deals relatively fast damage to any player trying to get close to you in melee range.

Best Cleric Spells in Dark and Darker

Without spells, priests are angry priests – selecting the right spells for what you expect is paramount to overall success. As mentioned, priests only have twelve knowledge points to start with, but you can prepare additional spells beyond your memory by using the Spell memory priority. This feature allows users to activate additional spells while dungeon diving, And you encounter equipment that increases your knowledge.

Whatever the composition of the group, their bread and butter are minor care, which allows the Cleric to heal a target or himself for 15 HP. Combining this with certain abilities can increase the strength of this heal, but it’s best used to replenish your frontline health between battles. If you are in a group, Resurrection he can protect an entire group if a frontline fighter falls early, without needing to find an Altar of Sacrifice which tends to be well guarded.

divine blow gives a noticeable increase in damage at a cheap cost, and holy light Heal allies or deal a devastating blow dealing 100 damage to an undead target. Combined with the ability Holy Purification, players can deal 200 damage with little boost, although it can only be used once. Eventually, To do the housework this can help remove DoT effects, like Goblin Poison, which will greatly increase survivability on maps like The Goblin Caves.
