Atari has acquired Nightdive Studios, a team known for games like Turok Remastered, Blood: Fresh Supply, PowerSlave Exhumed, and the upcoming System Shock remake.

Atari is now a forgotten company. However, that’s not as low as it sounds, having just bought Nightdive Studios, a team currently working on a System Shock remake.

  1. Initially, the acquisition cost Ataris $10 million.
  2. Current owners of Nightdive Studios could receive up to an additional $10 million in the future, depending on the performance of the team’s future games.
  3. Nightdive Studios was founded in 2012. The team specializes in revamping old games and has produced games like System Shock: Enhanced Edition, Turok Remastered, Blood: Fresh Supply, Shadow Man Remastered, PowerSlave Exhumed or Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition.

This purchase makes sense for Atari. The company is now mainly focused on releasing remasters and re-releases of older games. (e.g. Asteroids: Recharged or Missile Command: Recharged), so Nightdive Studios fits perfectly into this business strategy.

I only hope that the material acquired is not limited to refreshing games from the Atari catalog. Nightdive Studios has done a great job of reminding players of forgotten games from many different companies, and it would be a shame if that changed.

As a last system shock reminder The remake will be released on May 30 this year.. On that day, the game will debut exclusively on PC, while versions for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 consoles will be released at a later date.

Nightdive Studios’ plans for this year also include SiN: Reloaded, developed in conjunction with Slipgate Ironworks. In the case of this project, however, we still don’t know exactly when we can expect it to release.
