You won’t pick up the Power Bombs until very late in Metroid Prime Remastered, but they’re a must-have tool once you have them, paving the way for all sorts of other areas and collectibles. The only downside is that you only start with 4, so they should be used sparingly. Luckily, there are a handful of Power Bomb expansions hidden around the world of Tallon IV, each of which will give you an extra bomb to work with. Here’s where to find them, in the order you’re likely to find them.

Where to find all Power Bomb expansions in Metroid Prime Remastered

Minas Phazon – Central Dynamo

Unless you’re busy breaking a serious streak, this will be the first Power Bomb you pick up. It’s hidden deep in the Phazon Mines, and you’ll have to fight to get it. The Masked Sentinel Drone is guarding it and you will need to shoot it down first. Its concealment system means you won’t be able to block it, but if you can keep a steady hand you should still be able to pull it off. Luckily, you don’t need to scan it for 100% completion. Charged shots from the Wave Beam will stun it momentarily, allowing you to fire missiles. Alternatively, if you’ve already picked up the Wavebuster Beam Combo, you can download it to finish the drone off in no time, as it automatically targets enemies.

Once the drone is down, roll through the hole it opened and navigate the Electric Maze to collect your first Energy Bomb.

Chozo Ruins – Magma Pool

The Magma Pool is in the Ruined Fountain and will require the Varia Suit to even set foot inside. Even once you have that, there’s not much to do here until you have the Grapple Beam. Once you do, move to the other side and place a Power Bomb to break the Bendezium wall here and find another expansion, as well as a Chozo Lore piece.

If you’re the explorer type, chances are you’ve already stumbled across the Warrior’s Shrine – that’s where the Artifact of Strength is, but this room also hides another secret. Use a Power Bomb on the dais where the Artifact was previously located and it will open a tunnel you can roll through in Morph Ball mode. This will take you to an upper chamber in the Fiery Shores room and give you an additional Power Bomb to boot.

Phendrana Drifts – Edge of Phendrana / Safety Cave

Phendrana’s Edge is an imposing chamber located at the southern end of Phendrana’s snowy drifts. Head here, then use the grappling hook to reach the top of the room. There, you’ll be able to grab onto a passing glider with your Grapple Beam to spin through a Morph Ball tunnel that will take you to Security Cave, the resting place of the upcoming Power Bomb expansion.

Phendrana Drifts – Ice Ruins to the West

You’ll pass through Ice Ruins West on your first forays into Phendrana, but even if you notice the ice blocking access to this Power Bomb upgrade, it’s unlikely there’s much you can do about it. Much later, when you have taken possession of the plasma beam, return to this room and examine the roof of the structure in the northeast corner of the room. Melt the ice with the Plasma Beam, scroll down and the Power Bomb expansion is yours.
